The name “Doodsakker” goes back to the time when the Boer (Buren) left South-Africa because of the growing pressure and superiority of the Brits and moved to what is Angola today. Unfortunately they had no 4×4 Toyotas but only ox-carts.
We started 2 hours before the low tide (which is lower than normal at New and Full Moon) at 07:30 a.m. and drove the first leg until 11:30. Then we found a place to camp far away enough to leave the car with dry feet. The second day about the same schedule – dictated by the tide. We knew that we couldn’t afford a single driving mistake or any car breakdown. The tide would not forgive us and we were running the risk to lose a car. High adrenalin levels for two days.
